About Us

Talent Identification Camps

 

The OASA held an invitational Talent Identification Camp for 55 boys ages 16-19 in Cobourg on February 11 and 12, 2012. The camp was conducted by Head Coach Dave Hoffman and six assistants. Rising Star Athletics provided professional trainers to conduct a series of test to determine player fitness. The second camp will be held in London on March 17 and 18 at the Centrefield Sports Complex. These camps and future camps will be used to select athletes to participate in a 2013 North American Championships to be held in Saskatoon.

The coaching staff for these two indoor camps consist of:

Head Coach

Dave Hoffman

Dave Hoffman is a former Canadian National Team player and at the time one of the top hitters in the game. He was a member of the 1995 Canadian National Team that won a gold medal at the Pan American Games. In 2009 he was the head coach of the gold medal winning Team Ontario at the North American under 19 Championships held in Charlottetown PEI.

Assistant Coaches

George Ryder

George has coached senior and junior men’s teams at the national level. In 2002 and 2003 he coached the Jarvis Junior Men’s team to back to back national championships. In 2009 he was an assistant coach with Team Ontario, winners of the gold medal at the North American Championships. He is currently an assistant coach with the Softball Canada Under 19 National Team.

Doug Charlton


Doug is a Master Pitching Instructor in Ontario for the Softball Ontario Canpitch Program, and has experience pitching in numerous North American Softball Championship events. Doug is also a Level 3 coach, and is the current head coach for the Alvinston Indians Senior Men’s Fastball Team.

Mike Crawford

Mike is a former Canadian National Team pitcher. He started his fastball career in Bracebridge. In 1990 he won a Canadian Championship with Owen Sound. In 1993 he was a member of the ISC World Champion Toronto Gators. They won the Canadian Championship in 1996.

Scott Searle

Scott is the Head Coach of the University of Ottawa Intercollegiate Fastball Team. He is a current NCCP level 3 coach. He has served as a guest coach for the Women’s National Team.

Glen Ford

Glen is a former National Team catcher and a member of the Softball Canada Hall of Fame. In 1987 and 1983 Glen was the catcher for the Canadian Pan American team that won a gold medal. Currently Glen is the coach of the Newmarket Junior Men’s team.

Scott Tuttle

Scott has been involved with Team Ontario since 1999 as a scout and evaluator, and was then asked to manage Team Ontario in 2005 in preparation for the Canada Games in Regina, and the Under 19 North American Championships in Charlottetown, PEI. He has been playing, coaching or involved with Cobourg Legion Minor Softball for 40 years
